Men's Soccer Clinches PSAC Tournament Berth With 4-0 Win

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's soccer team won its fourth-straight game and clinched a spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament with a 4-0 win Saturday afternoon at Shippensburg.
 
Mercyhurst (11-4) has outscored its opponents 14-3 during its win streak.
 
The Lakers were led in scoring by Christopher Makengo and Fjodor van Kippersluis. van Kippersluis assisted Makengo on both his goals in the 44th and 71st minutes while van Kippersluis was set up by Connor Wilkinson for both of his scores in the 54th and 61st minutes.
 
Makengo and van Kippersluis combined for 20 of Mercyhurst's 29 shots attempts for the game.
 
Defensively, the Lakers held their opponents to another blank sheet, helping goalkeeper Alex Brems earn his third shutout of the season.
 
With the win, Mercyhurst now has 21 points in the PSAC standings and a 7-2 record in conference. The Lakers have qualified for one of the six spots in the PSAC tournament to defend their 2016 title. They currently sit in third place with two games left to play.

Mercyhurst takes the pitch next Wednesday, Oct. 25, when it hosts California (Pa.) at 3:30 at Mercyhurst Soccer Field.
