Women's Soccer Comes Up Short At Gannon

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team fell short of an upset bid of rival Gannon with a 3-1 loss Sunday evening at McConnell Family Stadium in downtown Erie.

With the loss, the Lakers (4-7-3) have their two-game win streak stopped and now have a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) record of 3-7-2.

Gannon's Taylor Lewis scored the first two goals  of the game for Gannon, the first coming in the 21st minute and the next coming in the 52nd minute.

Mercyhurst's Maya Fanazini scored her first goal of the season in the 62nd minute on a volley over the keepers's head from outside the penalty area. Gannon responded with a goal three minutes later to draw their lead back to two, a lead they held until the final whistle.

Fanazini led all Lakers with three shot attempts. The Golden Knights (9-2-2) held a 12-7 shot advantage over Mercyhurst.

The Lakers host Slippery Rock this coming Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. at Mercyhurst Soccer Field.
