GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst volleyball team fell in three sets to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent Seton Hill on Saturday. This loss drops the Lakers to a 6-14 overall record while slipping to a 1-8 conference record. The Griffins captured set one (25-22), set two (25-10), and set three (25-20).
Shelby Chesko led Mercyhurst contributing 11 kills, one ace and one block.
Katie Baird posted six kills, and one ace, while
Alyssa Zirnheld recorded six kills.
Alyssa Kling rounded out the top four offensive players posting four kills, one ace, and one block.
Makayla Mollé led assists with 25, she also posted an ace.
Hannah Vuylsteke led digs contributing 13, she also recorded an ace.
Leah Bisignani led the Griffins with ten kills, three aces, and three blocks. Viktoria Farian, and Katie Wenson also contributed six kills apiece.
Mercyhurst fell 25-22 in set one marking the closest set of the game. Scoring for the set was tightly contest as no team held more than a two point lead over the other until Mercyhurst claimed the first three point lead going up 19-16 off of a kill from Kling. Seton Hill responded by taking seven of the next eight points to lead 23-20, which they would use to earn victory in set one.
Seton Hill (14-4, 7-2 PSAC) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead that they held through the entirety of the set. Mercyhurst would come closest to leading when they trailed 6-1 after a kill from Chesko. Seton Hill mustered their lead on a six point streak and a five point streak which they would use to defeated the Lakers 25-10 in set two.
The Lakers fell 25-20 in set three, coming back from an early 6-2 deficit to only trailing 6-5. The Griffins would pull ahead of Mercyhurst by as much as seven when they led 20-13. Mercyhurst would rally to claim seven of the next 12 points, despite this scoring effort the Lakers were unable to hold of the Griffins from claiming the third set and ending the game.
Mercyhurst will return to action next on Friday when the visit Slippery Rock in PSAC action, at 7 pm.
