Bauer's OT Game-Winner Wins Second Straight For Lakers

ERIE, Pa. – Maya Bauer's golden goal in the first overtime period was all that was needed to give the Mercyhurst women's soccer team a 1-0 win over Lock Haven Friday afternoon at Mercyhurst Soccer Field.

The Lakers (4-6-3) now stand at 3-6-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) games and have won back-to-back games. Lock Haven (4-8) drops to 3-8 in conference play.

Mercyhurst had a 14-9 advantage in total shots on goal, including 4-0 advantage in overtime.

Just over seven minutes into the first overtime period, Veera Viitikko sent a ball forward that Bauer ran down in Lock Haven's penalty area. She settled it, and scored to the bottom right hand corner for the game-winner.

The goal was Bauer's second of the season and Viitikko earned her second assist on the play.

The Lakers play crosstown rival Gannon in their next game Sunday, Oct. 15, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
