Men's Basketball Stumbles in Second Half in Loss to #16 Indiana (Pa.)

ERIE, Pa. -- Lorenzo Collier and Malcolm Walters scored 18 points apiece for the Mercyhurst men's basketball team, but a balanced attack by 16th-ranked Indiana (Pa.) enabled the visitors to take a 80-69 decision over the Lakers during Monday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.

Collier also had six rebounds while Walters and H'ian Hale dished four assists each for Mercyhurst (6-7, 4-5).

The Crimson Hawks (13-2, 8-1) had five scorers in double-figures. Devon Cottrell led the way with 18 points while Jacobo Diaz had a double-double, finishing with 11 points, 15 rebounds and six assists.

IUP led for much of the contest, taking an early 18-8 lead before the Lakers charged back with a 15-4 run. That MU stretch culminated with a Walter three-pointer to put the hosts ahead, 23-22.

The first half featured 10 lead changes, ending with a 37-34 Hawk lead.

Mercyhurst battled back again in the third quarter, taking its final lead on another Walters trey with 12:48. The basket gave the Lakers a 49-46 advantage before IUP went on a 13-point run to take the lead for good. Mercyhurst trimmed its deficit to six points after that, but that was as close as the hosts got.

Both teams were strong from the field as Mercyhurst went 28 of 57 (49.1 percent) and 8 of 12 from three-point land (66.7) while IUP finished 32 of 58 (55.2) and 9 of 22 (40.9), respectively. IUP outrebounded the Lakers, 31-29.

Mercyhurst will be in action next on Wednesday when it visits Seton Hill for a 7:30 p.m. PSAC matchup.
