CLARION, Pa. --
Lorenzo Collier made a jumper with four seconds, lifting the Mercyhurst men's basketball team to a 50-49 victory over Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Friday. The victory snapped the Lakers' three-game losing streak and handed Clarion its first home loss of the season.
Malcolm Walters had a double-double for Mercyhurst (6-6, 4-4), totaling 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Durrell McDonald contributed 12 points and
H'ian Hale made five assists for the Lakers, who led the game for all but 55 seconds.
The Lakers jumped out to a 22-8 lead -- and led by 14 on four different occasions in the first half -- before the host Golden Eagles (5-8, 3-5) closed their deficit to 36-27 at halftime.
Clarion continued to close the gap, eventually taking a 49-48 lead with 18 seconds left when Jamani Pierce hit a pair of free throws. The Lakers answered on their next possession with Collier's go-ahead basket; a desperation shot by Clarion followed, but missed its mark.
Pierce and Cameron Grumley had 12 points apiece to lead Clarion.
Mercyhurst shot 19 of 56 from the field (33.9 percent) and 8 of 22 from three-point territory (36.4) while the Eagles went 16 of 44 (36.4) and 3 of 13 (23.1), respectively. Clarion won the rebound battle, 42-31.
The Lakers will return to action on Monday with a 7:30 p.m. PSAC home game against Indiana (Pa.).
