Men's Ice Hockey Welcomes Air Force Academy

The Matchup
  • The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team welcomes Atlantic Hockey Opponent Air Force Academy for a two-game series on Friday and Saturday.
 
Game Recap
  • The Lakers made their Mariucci Classic debut last weekend when they took on the University of Minnesota and the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
  • On Friday night the Lakers dropped a 5-1 decision to Minnesota, with a goal from sophomore Derek Barach.
  • The next night, the Lakers came back in the third period, from an early 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 in overtime against Alabama-Huntsville. Sophomore Matthew Whittaker scored the overtime winner and added an assist. Redshirt-junior Jack Riley and junior Nathan Ferriero scored the other two goals. Freshman Joey Duszak also picked up two assists on the night.
 
All Time Series
  • Air Force has acquired a 13-15-3 all-time series advantage over Mercyhurst.
 
Last Meeting
  • The Lakers and Falcons split their weekend series last season at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
  • The Falcons took the first game in overtime 5-4, before the Lakers won 3-1 the next night.
 
Scouting Air Force
  • Air Force (11-6-3, 8-3-1) is sitting in second in the Atlantic Hockey standings and is on a four game winning streak.
  • The Falcons are coming off of a weekend sweep of Sacred Heart where they won 3-1 and 3-2.
  • Kyle Haak is leading the Falcons roster with 17 points. Evan Giesler is close behind with 16 points and Phil Boje is next with 15 points.
  • On top of the goaltender chart is Shane Starrett with a record of 11-3-2. He has a 2.39 goals against average and a .916 save percentage.
  • Tyler Ledford was named AHA Player of the Week for his three-point performance against Sacred Heart.
 
Laker Lineup
  • Barach is at the top of the Lakers roster with 20 points. Fellow sophomore Les Lancaster is next with 16 points and junior Jonathan Charbonneau is close behind with 15 points.
  • Freshman Colin DeAugustine has earned a 5-3-1 record with a 2.64 GAA and .925 save percentage in net.
 
Next Up
  • The Lakers will head to West Point, N.Y., to face Atlantic Hockey Opponent Army on January 13 and 14. Puck drops is set for 7:05 p.m. both nights.
