Men's Ice Hockey, Niagara to Meet in Home-and-Home Series

Setting the Scene
  • The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team will welcome Niagara on Friday before traveling to Niagara, N.Y. on Saturday for a home-and-home series with the Purple Eagles.
Weekend Recap
  • The Lakers traveled to Holy Cross where they tied both games 3-3.
  • During Friday's game sophomore Taylor Best scored two goals while junior Nathan Ferriero picked up the other goal.
  • On Saturday redshirt-junior Jack Riley, sophomore Wes Baker and freshman Joey Duszak scored the Lakers' three goals.
Previous Matchup
  • Mercyhurst and Niagara matched up in the beginning of the season and each team took a win from it.
  • The Lakers welcomed Niagara on October 18 and won 4-2. It was the first win of the season for Mercyhurst.
  • The Purple Eagles hosted the Lakers on November 15 and downed the Lakers for their first win of the season.
Scouting Niagara
  • Niagara has an overall record of 3-19-3 and a conference record of 3-14-2 and is sitting in last place on the Atlantic Hockey Standings.
  • They are coming off of a 4-1 loss against Canisius College.
  • Leading the Purple Eagles is Kris Springgs with 12 points. Next up, both with 11 points are Johnny Curran and Derek Brown.
  • Splitting time in net are Jackson Teichroeb, Guillaume Therien and Joe O'Brien. On top is Teichroeb with a 1-7-2 record, a 4.18 goals against average and a .875 save percentage.
Laker Lineup
  • With a current overall record of 9-13-3 and a conference record of 8-9-3 the Lakers are sitting in sixth place in the Atlantic Hockey standings with 19 points.
  • Sophomore Derek Barach is leading the roster in assists (17) and points with 21. Junior Jonathan Charbonneau is leading in goals with 12 and has 18 points. Freshman Joey Duszak is leading the freshmen in scoring with three goals and 11 assists for 14 points.
  • Sharing time in the net are sophomore Brandon Wildung and freshman Colin DeAugustine. Both goaltenders are coming off of a 3-3 tie at Holy Cross.

  • The Lakers will host Sacred Heart on February 3 and 4 at 7:05 p.m.
