EDINBORO, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team suffered a 62-50 loss to Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.

Natalie Piaggesi led the Laker effort with 17 points and eight rebounds. Maria Lapertosa added 12 points off the bench while Jessica Bell put in 11. Alex Artise and Angela Heintz grabbed nine rebounds apiece for MU (16-4, 11-3).

For Edinboro (17-3, 13-1), Michaela Barnes totaled 15 points and six rebounds. Michelle Jahn, Jontay Walton and Katie Fischer added 15, 13 and 10 points, respectively. Fischer also had five assists while Ciara Rosten made seven steals.

The host Fighting Scots went on a 10-point first-half run and led by seven twice before Mercyhurst closed the gap to 26-25 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Lakers finally pulled even at 30-all when Piaggesi made a basket and free throw, but Edinboro then outscored its visitors, 15-4, through the rest of the period.

EUP held the margin in double-figures for most of the fourth quarter; Mercyhurst pulled within nine points on two occasions, but that was the smallest the gap became.

Mercyhurst held a huge advantage in the rebound department, outnumbering the Scots' effort, 51-27. The Lakers, however, lost the turnover battle, committing 33 to Edinboro's 17.

The Lakers will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 1, when they visit Indiana (Pa.) for a 5:30 p.m. PSAC tip-off.
