EDINBORO, Pa. --
Lorenzo Collier scored 30 points as the Mercyhurst men's basketball team rolled a 79-59 victory over Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference competition on Wednesday.
Collier's effort is the first 30-point effort for Mercyhurst since Feb. 23, 2011, when Heiden Ratner scored 30 in an 80-77 win at Edinboro.
Dajuan Dent added 22 points and eight rebounds while
Durrell McDonald contributed 16 points for the Lakers (8-10, 6-8).
Malcolm Walters finished with seven rebounds and
H'ian Hale totaled seven assists and five steals.
For Edinboro (6-12, 4-10), Jaymon Mason scored 32 points and Maceo Baston put in 13. Jon Girvin grabbed eight rebounds.
The host Fighting Scots took an early 13-6 lead before Mercyhurst answered with a 15-3 run to take the lead for good. That 15-3 stretch was led by the three-man crew of Collier (6), Dent (5) and McDonald (4).
The Lakers took a 34-30 advantage into halftime before Baston opened the second half for EUP with a two-pointer. Then, a 12-2 Mercyhurst run -- led by eight points from Collier -- helped the visitors snag a 46-34 lead.
Ahead 56-47 with 9:56 remaining, Mercyhurst went on a back-breaking 12-0 run. Dent put in five straight points, McDonald followed with four consecutive ducats and Collier capped the charge with a trey to forge a 68-47 Laker lead. Mercyhurst kept the gap at a comfortable margin the rest of the way.
The Lakers finished 29 of 56 from the field (51.8 percent) while holding the Scots to a 25-for-60 performance (41.7). Mercyhurst outrebounded Edinboro, 37-28.
Mercyhurst will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 1, when it visits Indiana (Pa.) for a 7:30 p.m. PSAC tip-off.
