Field Hockey Drops OT Decision To #9 Kutztown

Box Score ERIE, Pa.— The Mercyhurst field hockey team lost a 3-2 overtime decision in its home opener against ninth-ranked Kutztown at Tullio Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Emily Burns and Bryna Cook scored for the Lakers, but Kutztown's Madison Stewart scored the game-winner just 1:01 into extra-time.

The Lakers (0-4) traded goals with Kutztown during both halves of the game. The first Laker goal was scored by Emily Burns -- her first of the season – as she was assisted by Katie Lechner with 1:41 left in the first half. That tally knotted the contest at 1-1.

In the second half, Cook found the cage just 1:20 into the period, giving the Lakers their only lead of the game. Later in the period, Stewart evened the score at 2-all, setting the stage for her OT winner.

Mercyhurst goalie Sam Takac recorded three saves. Chardonnay Hope had one stop for the Bears (4-0).

The Lakers will be on the road for their next game this Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
