Indiana, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team began its 2016 season with a 1-0 win thanks to a game-winning goal from
Rebekah Craig in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play against Indiana (Pa.) on Thursday. With the win, the Lakers got off to a 1-0 start in the PSAC.
The Lakers began the game on the defensive, allowing the Crimson Hawks two corner kicks and six shots in the first 26 minutes of the game. Laker senior goalkeeper
Kristen Koch made four saves in that time period to keep the game scoreless. The score remained 0-0 at the end of the first half.

Rebekah Craig. Craig, who was named team captain prior to the season, scored her first goal after fellow senior
Nicole McAlpin sent in a cross, and allowed Craig to take a shot from 15 yards out.
Indiana (Pa.) continued to apply pressure throughout and finished with 14 shots compared to the Lakers nine. Koch made seven saves in the match and earned her first shutout of the season.
Mercyhurst (1-0, 1-0) will host its first home game of the season Saturday, Sept. 3 against Lock Haven. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
