ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team put on a scoring clinic in its first home game of the season in a 6-1 victory over the Lock Haven Bald Eagles Saturday.
The Lakers dominated possession from the opening whistle until the game's conclusion. Freshmen forward
Maia Russo scored the first goal of her collegiate career to open the scoring in the 24
th minute.

th minute, senior
Rebekah Craig tallied her second goal of the year off a free kick from 22 yards out to put Mercyhurst up 2-0. The Lakers weren't done there, as senior Nicole McAplin netted her first of the season one minute before halftime to extend the Mercyhurst lead to three.
The offensive onslaught continued in the second half beginning with another Laker's first collegiate goal.
Maya Fanazini scored a second-effort goal in the 54
th minute to put the Lakers up 4-0.
Jinan Abdalah Funes entered the game in the 58
th minute and proceeded to score her first career goal as a Laker as well. Her header found the net in the 60
th minute to put Mercyhurst up 5-0.
After Lock Haven received its first goal via a Lakers' own goal in the 70
th minute, Abdalah Funes struck again with her second of the game in the 80
th minute, leading to the final score of 6-1. Mercyhurst had 18 total shots compared to just two for Lock Haven, including a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal.
The Lakers (2-0-0, 2-0-0) look to keep up their early-season success in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) next Friday, Sept. 9, at West Chester.
