Box Score ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Mercyhurst football team fell to sixth-ranked Ashland, 48-0, in a non-conference season-opener for both teams on Thursday.
Laker wide receiver
Danavian Clay had five receptions for 74 yards while fellow wide-out
Brad Novak made one catch for 53 yards.
Quarterbacks
Doug Altavilla and
Logan Weaver combined for 15 completions on 32 attempts as the Lakers threw for 181 yards. Altavilla was 10 of 22 for 144 while Weaver finished 5 of 10 for 37.
On defense, defensive back
Dante Redwood had nine solo tackles and fellow DB
Ben Young combiled eight total tackles and two pass breakups. Linebacker
Chris Peluso recorded a sack. Defensive lineman
Benji Abercrombie and linebacker
Austin Drew combined on a tackle-for-loss.
For host Ashland (1-0), running back Vance Settlemire scored three touchdowns -- two on the ground and one through the air. He totaled 13 carries for 132 yards.
Quarterback Travis Tarnowski completed 20 of 28 passes for 226 yards and three TDs. His targets included tight end Adam Shaheen, who had seven grabs for 89 yards, and wide receiver Matthew Wilcox, who totaled four catches for 80 yards and one TD.
The Eagle defense recorded five sacks. Lineman Austin Utter had two.
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 10, with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference interdivisional matchup at Kutztown. Kickoff is set for 5:05 p.m.
