Baseball Rolls Over Lake Erie, 14-0

ERIE, Pa. -- Sabatino DiNardo III blasted two home runs and winning pitcher Chris Vallimont fired six shutout innings as the Mercyhurst baseball team claimed a 14-0 victory over Lake Erie in non-conference action at the Mercyhurst Baseball Field on Tuesday.

DiNardo went 2-for-4 with the two dingers. He also had six RBI.

Also for the Mercyhurst offense, Daniel Elliott was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and one run while Chris Gonzalez batted 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and one RBI.

Marc DiLeo added a 2-for-3 performance off the bench. Cameron Balego and Brendan Cox scored two runs apiece.

On the mound, Vallimont allowed only two hits over his six frames, finishing with nine strikeouts and two walks. Relief pitchers Matthew Jaskolka, Jake Collins and Ben Nolan threw one scoreless inning each; Nolan struck out the side in the ninth.

The Lakers scored five runs in the first inning -- highlighted by a three-run home run by DiNardo. Balego and Hank Morrison added RBI singles during the frame.

Elliott had the first of his two RBI doubles during MU's two-run second inning. Gonzalez hit an RBI single in the Laker third and then two runs scored on errors in the Laker fourth as Mercyhurst took a 10-0 lead.

The host Lakers (21-8) finished out the scoring with a four-run fifth, getting one run on an Elliott double and then three more on DiNardo's second home run.

Tyler Kmitt and Nigel Williams had hits for Lake Erie (7-16). Ryan Lally was the losing pitcher.

The Lakers will return to action on Saturday and Sunday with a four-game Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division series against cross-town rival Gannon.
