ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst baseball team cruised to a pair of wins over Clarion, 15-4 and 10-0, during Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division games on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Baseball Field. Although the contests were played on MU's campus, Clarion was the designated home team.

Individual game recaps are below:

Game One: Mercyhurst 15, Clarion 4
Hank Morrison went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI to lead the Lakers' 14-hit attack.

Jimmy Latona added a 3-for-3 game with a double, two runs and one RBI while Sabatino DiNardo III batted 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and one RBI.

Also for the Mercyhurst offense, Matthew Schneider had a double and two RBI, Chris Gonzalez scored three runs and stolen a base, and Austin Alonge and Cameron Balego scored two runs apiece.

Joe Gnacinski was the winning pitcher. In five shutout innings, he allowed only one hit while recording four strikeouts, three walks and one hit batsman. Jim Solano and Matthew Keating tossed one scoreless inning each in relief.

The Lakers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run double by Morrison and never looked back from there.

Latona had an RBI double in MU's two-run third while another two-run double by Morrison highlighted Mercyhurst's two-run sixth. Schneider added a two-run double of his own in the Mercyhurst seventh.

Kyle Armagost was the losing pitcher for Clarion, giving up 10 runs on 10 hits while finishing with three strikeouts, five walks and three hit batters. Tyler Falk had a three-run home run during the Golden Eagles' four-run sixth.

Game Two: Mercyhurst 10, Clarion 0
Laker starting pitcher Matthew Minnick fired a one-hit shutout, finishing with 11 strikeouts and two walks. He took a no-hitter into the final inning.

For the Mercyhurst offense, Brandon Cox batted 2-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and two stolen bases. Drew Borowski added a 2-for-2 game with a double and two RBI.

Alonge (two RBI), Balego and DiNardo added doubles for the Lakers (20-8, 9-3). Gonzalez homered.

Mercyhurst jumped ahead in the first inning on Gonzalez's two-run homer and led the rest of the game.

Cox had an RBI single in Mercyhurst's three-run second. Alonge and DiNardo added RBI doubles in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, before a Borowski two-run single and Marc DiLeo sacrifice fly finished out the scoring in the seventh.

Minnick's no-hit bid came to an end against Clarion's Josh Ponsoll, who lined a leadoff single to left field during the seventh inning.

Kane McCall was the losing pitcher for the Eagles (5-19, 1-7), giving up seven runs (five earned) on seven hits while accumulating four strikeouts, six walks and one hit batsman.

The Lakers will return to action on Tuesday with one nine-inning game -- a 2 p.m. non-conference game against Lake Erie.
