WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. -- The Mercyhurst men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to West Liberty in non-conference action on Thursday.
The host Hilltoppers (14-5) won two of three doubles matches before the teams split singles play. The contest was a matchup between regionally-ranked teams in the Atlantic (WLU, 2nd; Mercyhurst, 5th).
Mercyhurst's biggest highlight came in the form of
Nenad Terzic, who defeated the top-ranked individual in the Atlantic (Baptiste Perrin) -- just one day after defeating the No. 2-ranked player (Vitor Albanese, Edinboro).
Terzic clawed his was to a win at No. 1 singles over Perrin, who is also ranked 41st in NCAA Division II. Terzic won by a final score of 7-6 (7-3), 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), extending his singles-play winning streak to six matches.
Andoni Marquez Calderon and
Ross Molinaro IV also won singles matches for Mercyhurst (9-6); Molinaro won his 13th straight individual match.
Marquez Calderon won the fifth singles match over Matt Tully, 5-7, 6-0, 10-4, while Molinaro defeated Pablo Cimorra, 6-4, 7-5, at sixth singles.
Joaquin Aguilera provided the Lakers' lone doubles point at No. 3, taking an 8-3 victory against Luke Flanagan and Martin Moncayo.
Mercyhurst will return to action on Monday with a 1 p.m. non-conference matchup against the New York Institute of Technology.
