WHEELING, W. Va. --
James Crowe scored three goals, including the overtime game-winner, as the 10th-ranked Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team earned an 11-10 victory against Wheeling Jesuit in Eastern College Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
Oran Horn also had three goals for the Lakers (3-0, 1-0), who trailed 7-4 before storming back with a four-goal run.
Derek Richards added two goals and an assist while
Colin Greenway and
Keyan McQueen chipped in with a goal and an assist each for Mercyhurst.
Benjamin Brooks contributed a goal for the Lakers and winning goaltender
Matt Wells finished with nine saves.
Down by three in the third, Mercyhurst's four straight scores helped it to an 8-7 lead after three periods. Horn had two goals during the charge.
Wheeling pulled into a tie on three different occasions in the fourth without ever grabbing the lead. Richards gave the Lakers a late lead at 10-9 with 1:33 to go, but the host Cardinals (0-2, 0-1) answered on a goal by Sam Horning with 47 ticks left.
Crowe scored the winner 3:18 into the first OT period.
Wheeling Jesuit held a 37-20 shot advantage, but was fruitless on the man-up, going 0-for-5. The Lakers were 2-for-3 on the man-up.
Mercyhurst will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 12, with its home opener -- a non-conference game against Mount Olive at 1 p.m.
