CANTON, Ohio -- The Mercyhurst baseball team earned a 10-3 victory over Malone in non-conference play on Tuesday.
Brendan Cox batted 3-for-4 for the Lakers (12-8), who took a 5-0 lead through two innings.
Collin Fantaskey added a 2-for-4 game wth a double, two runs, one RBI and two stolen bases.
Cameron Balego also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a run scored.
Daniel Elliott homered and
Chris Gonzalez doubled.
Laker starting pitcher
Chris Vallimont worked 6 1/3 innings to get the win. Of the three runs scored on him, two were earned. He allowed even hits while totaling eight strikeouts and one walk.
Relief pitchers
Jim Solano (2/3 IP) and
Jake Hall (2 IP) combined for 2 2/3 frames of scoreless relief.
Hank Morrison had an RBI single in the first inning for Mercyhurst before the visiting Lakers pushed across four runs in the second.
In the second,
Collin Fantaskey had an RBI single, Cox ripped a sacrifice fly and Gonzalez smacked a two-run double.
Leading 6-3, the Lakers pushed across a single run in the eighth -- on a sac fly by
Jimmy Latona -- and three-runs on Elliott's ninth-inning homer.
Mercyhurst will return to action this weekend with a four-game Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division series with Slippery Rock. The games will take place at SRU on Friday and MU on Saturday.
