Lancaster Named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Year

The Atlantic Hockey Association [AHA] named Mercyhurst men's ice hockey freshman forward Lester Lancaster the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Year.

In 36 games this season, Lancaster recorded nine goals and 20 assists for 29 points.

Lancaster was one of the two unanimous selections for the Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie Team. He was also named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Conference First Team, becoming one of the two first freshman in conference history to do so.

Lancaster led all Atlantic Hockey defensemen in goals and points and tied the AHA all-time-single season record for points by a rookie defender. He ranked third in assists.

Lancaster was named AHA Rookie of the Week for the week of February 1-7 in which he recorded four points. Three of those four points came during the Lakers' 5-2 win over Bentley. He was also named AHA Rookie of the Month for the month of February. During February, he recorded four goals and six assists for 10 points.

Lancaster ranked second in points on the Lakers' roster behind fellow freshman Derek Barach (32). He led all Laker freshmen in power play goals with a total of five.

The last Mercyhurst player to be named AHA Rookie of the Year was Taylor Holstrom during the 2010-2011 season.
