NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- Eleven different Lakers scored goals as the 14th-ranked Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team defeated Walsh, 18-7, in an Eastern College Athletic Conference game on Tuesday.
James Crowe and
Connor Enright were leading point-getters for MU (4-1, 2-0). Crowe finished with three goals and one assist while Enright had two goals and two assists.
Colin Greenway,
John Plaskey,
Derek Richards and
Myles Young found the net twice each for Mercyhurst while
Brett Benzinger,
Benjamin Brooks,
Sam Crusha and
Oran Horn had single goals.
Kurtis Woodland made two assists; Greenway, Plaskey and
Patrick Liddy had one helper apiece.
In the faceoff department,
Alex Misterman was 11 of 17 while Brooks went 6-for-10. Brooks and
Shane Endres picked up five groundballs each while both Misterman and
Brandon May had four.
Greg Weyl caused two turnovers.
Winning goaltender
Matt Wells finished with six saves.
The Lakers jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter and never trailed from there. They had a five-goal run later in the half, taking a 9-3 advantage into halftime.
Host Walsh (3-4, 0-1) put in two goals to close its deficit to 9-5 early in the third quarter, but Mercyhurst then closed with a 9-2 run to finish the game.
Bryan Crim was Walsh's leading scorer with three goals and one assist. Goalie Dylan Ciolino had five saves.
Mercyhurst outshot Walsh, 41-22, and held a 17-10 advantage in faceoffs and 33-20 edge in groundballs.
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday when they host fourth-ranked Seton Hill for a 2 p.m. PSAC contest.
