ERIE, Pa. -- The 14th-ranked Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team claimed an 11-8 victory over fourth-ranked Seton Hill in an Eastern College Athletic Conference contest at Tullio Field on Saturday.
James Crowe led the way with four goals while
Derek Richards and
Keyan McQueen put in two goals apiece for the Lakers (5-1, 3-0), who snapped a 5-all tie with four straight goals and led the rest of the way.
Connor Enright,
Oran Horn and
Kurtis Woodland also had goals for Mercyhurst. Richards and
Colin Greenway made assists.
Winning goaltender
Matt Wells finished with eight saves while
Benjamin Brooks picked up five groundballs. Greenway,
Greg Weyl and
Marco Maronski added three GBs apiece.
The Lakers took an early three-goal lead before the visiting Griffins (6-1, 1-1) battled back to forge a 5-5 tie in the second quarter.
Horn broke the tie with 17 seconds remaining in the first half, starting Mercyhurst's 4-0 run. Enright, Richards and Crowe added goals in the third quarter, pushing the Laker advantage lead to 9-5.
Crowe, who had three of his scores in the second half, had the game's final goal with 2:23 left after Seton Hill closed the deficit to 10-8.
Zach Hartmann had three goals while Zach Rusch contributed two goals and one assist for SHU. Merritt Bailey totaled 13 saves in net.
The Lakers will be in action next on Wednesday when Dowling visits Tullio Field for a 1 p.m. non-conference start.
