ERIE, Pa. --
Lester Lancaster's three-point night led Mercyhurst as the Lakers' men's ice hockey team claimed a 5-2 victory over Bentley in Atlantic Hockey action on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Lancaster had a goal and an assist while both
Kyle Cook and
Jack Riley had one goal and one assist apiece.
Wes Baker and
Josh Lammon also had goals for the Lakers (14-13-1, 12-9-1), who bounced back from a Friday loss to the visiting Falcons (11-14-4, 9-10-4).
MU fell behind, 1-0, on an early first-period Bentley goal by Max French, but registered the next three goals and held that lead the rest of the way.
Lancaster evened the score at 1-all later in the first, getting an assist from
Chris Makowski.
The Lakers took the lead just 19 seconds into the second on Lammon's goal. He was assisted by Riley and
Kyle Dutra. Later in the period, Baker scored on the power play and was assisted by Cook and Lancaster.
Andrew Gladiuk trimmed the Falcons' deficit to 3-2 later in the second, but BU was unable to pull any closer.
Cook converted a power-play goal in the third -- with assists from Lancaster and
Derek Barach -- before Riley pushed the hosts' lead to 5-2 with an empty netter.
Brandon Wildung earned the win in net, finishing with 26 saves. Jayson Argue stopped 25 shots for Bentley.
Mercyhurst outshot its visitors, 30-28, and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Falcons were 1-for-5 on the man-advantage.
The Lakers will return to action next weekend with a pair of AHA contests against Niagara -- on Friday at NU and then back in Erie on Saturday.
