NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team tied Niagara, 2-2, in Atlantic Hockey action on Friday.
Kyle Cook and
Jonathan Charbonneau scored goals for the Lakers (14-13-2, 12-9-2) while goalie
Adam Carlson totaled 36 saves.
Mercyhurst took an early 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Cook. The opening score occurred 1:39 into the contest and was assisted by
Derek Barach and
Taylor Best.
The teams scored only 46 seconds apart in the second period; the Purple Eagles tied the contest and MU quickly untied the knot to go up, 2-1. Johnny Curran scored for NU before Charbonneau put the Lakers back in front, receiving assists from
Lester Lancaster and
Josh Lammon.
Niagara's Derian Plouffe scored the game's final goal with one second remaining in the second period. The teams followed with scoreless third and overtime periods.
Jackson Teichroeb had 30 saves in the Niagara net. The Eagles outshot the Lakers, 38-32.
MU went 1-for-3 on the power play while Niagara was 0-for-3 on the man-advantage.
The same two teams will meet again on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. -- this time in Erie.
