BENTLEY COMES TO TOWNThis weekend, the Lakers take on a familiar opponent in the Bentley Falcons. In the all-time series against Bentley, the Lakers have a record of 33-15-8, including a current three-game winning streak.
"We've had a good week of practice and I know this will be a challenge for our young team against Bentley," said head coach
Rick Gotkin.
Last season, Mercyhurst went 0-3-1 against Bentley during the regular season, but defeated them in a three-game series, 2-1.
Â
In Game 1, the Lakers won 1-0 in an exciting battle where
Ryan Misiak '15 found the back of the net at 4:46 in overtime. The next da,y Bentley took game two, 5-3, which sent the quarterfinals matchup into a deciding game three. Bentley was up 2-0 late in the third, but Mercyhurst was not ready for their season to end. Forwards
Matthew Zay '15 and
Chris Bodo '15 scored 14 seconds apart to tie the game at 2-2 beforeÂ
Nardo Nagtzaam scored the game-winning goal with only five seconds remaining in regulation. That goal sent the Lakers to AHA semifinals.
Â
This season, Mercyhurst traveled to Bentley in October and swept the series with scores of 3-1 and 3-2. Freshman
Taylor Best recorded three goals during that sweep.
Â
Mercyhurst is currently on a two-game winning streak in which it swept American International. Bentley is coming off of a win and tie against Sacred Heart University.
Â
"I'm confident that if we play as well as we can, we'll have a very good chance," said Gotkin.
