#23 Baseball Takes Two Over WV State

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The 23rd-ranked Mercyhurst baseball claimed a pair of non-conference wins over West Virginia State on Sunday, 4-0 and 2-1.

Game One: Lakers 4, West Virginia State 0
Winning pitcher Colin McKee fired six innings of shutout ball, recording 10 strikeouts and three walks. He allowed three hits. Relief pitcher Matthew Minnick tossed one shutout inning.

Jimmy Latona and Hank Morrison collected two RBI each. Daniel Elliott and Sabatino DiNardo III added triples.

The Lakers scored twice in the third, once in the fourth and once in the sixth. Morrison had a two-run single. The other two runs were scored on sacrifice flies by Latona

Game Two: Lakers 2, West Virginia State 1
A two-run home run by DiNardo accounted for Mercyhurst's two runs in the fourth -- just one half-inning after WVSU took a 1-0 lead.

Cam Knott was the inning pitcher, going five innings. He gave up one run on three hits while totaling seven strikeouts and two walks. Joe Gnacinski pitched two innings of shutout ball, recording three strikeouts and earning the save.
