Men's Ice Hockey Ties Niagara, 2-2, For Second Straight Night

ERIE, Pa. -- For the second consecutive night, the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team tied Niagara, 2-2, in Atlantic Hockey action on Saturday -- this time, in front of 1,337 fans at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Lester Lancaster and Kane Elliot had goals for the Lakers (14-13-3, 12-9-3) while goaltender Brandon Wildung finished with 41 saves.

Mercyhurst fell behind 1-0 on a first-period goal by Niagara's Stanislav Dzakhov, but responded just 1:43 later on Lancaster's score. Kyle Dutra and Anthony Mastrodicasa had assists on the Lancaster goal; Mastrodicasa had a shot blocked from the left point before Dutra jumped on the loose puck and slipped a pass back to Lancaster, who was moving over from the right point.

Elliott gave MU its only lead in the second period, getting assists from Chris Makowski and Wes Baker. Baker won a battle for the puck before Makowski found Elliot with a pass at the top of the slot.

Niagara's Sam Rennaker forged the 2-2 tie later in the second with the game's final goal.

Niagara outshot Mercyhurst, 43-35, while Purple Eagle goalie Guillaume Therien recorded 33 saves. Neither team scored on the power play: MU was 0-for-4 while NU went 0-for-3.

The Lakers will return to action on Feb. 19-20 with a pair of AHA contests at Army West Point.
