Hartwick Scores Twice, Convery Gets Shutout in 4-0 Win

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Mercyhurst women's hockey goalie Jessica Convery earned her first shutout of the season and Brooke Hartwick added two goals including an empty-netter to help the Lakers cruise past Lindenwood 4-0 on Friday night.

After a scoreless first period in which Convery stopped seven shots and the Lakers stalled two power play chances for Lindenwood, it was Mercyhurst who got on the board initially in the second period. On a delayed penalty call against Lindenwood allowed Mercyhurst to pull Convery to get an extra skater on the ice. With the added pressure, Jennifer MacAskill found the back of the net to put the Lakers ahead 1-0 3:11 into the period. MacAskill was assisted by Morgan Stacey and Paige Horton.

Later in the second period, the Lakers doubled their lead at even-strength. Brooke Hartwick scored at the 15:35 mark with assists to Taylor Accursi and Megan Whiddon. Mercyhurst took the 2-0 lead into the third period.

Early in the final period, Mercyhurst's Callie Paddock scored her first of the season to put the Lakers ahead 3-0 with helpers awarded to Samantha Fieseler and Accursi 2:34 into the period. Convery and the Lakers' defense continued their shut-down performance of the Lions and enabled Convery to earn her second career shutout. Brooke Hartwick added another goal on Lindenwood's empty net at the 15:39 mark to bring the final score to 4-0.

Mercyhurst (6-10-1) improved its College Hockey America conference record to 3-4-0 with the win. The Lakers will look for their fourth conference victory tomorrow at 1:00 central time (2 p.m. eastern) against Lindenwood.
