Men's Ice Hockey Readies for Home-and-Home Series against Robert Morris

Setting the Scene
  • The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team and set for the first of two home-and-home series against Atlantic Hockey Opponent Robert Morris on Saturday and Sunday.
  • The Lakers will travel to Robert Morris on Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. start time before welcoming the Colonials on Sunday at 4:05 p.m.
  • The second home-and-home series between the two teams is set for February 17 and 18.
Weekend Recap
  • Mercyhurst is coming off of a split weekend series with Sacred Heart.
  • The Lakers won the first game 5-3\ with two goals from sophomore Taylor Best and three assists from freshman Joey Duszak.
  • The Pioneers came back with a 3-2 win on Saturday.
Previous Matchup
  • Last season, the Lakers and Colonials matched up in Moon Township, PA were they skated to a 2-2 tie before the Lakers fell 6-1 the next night.
Scouting the Colonials
  • Robert Morris is also coming off of a split weekend series with Bentley University. They lost the first game 4-3 before winning the next night 4-1.
  • Leading the Colonials roster is Brady Ferguson with 24 points. Alex Tonge is next with 20 points and Daniel Leavens is close behind with 19 points.
  • Between the pipes, Francis Marotte is on top for Robert Morris. He has posted a 1.75 goals against average and a .947 save percentage while putting up a 7-2-1 record.
Laker Lineup Best is Back
  • Sophomore Taylor Best played for the first time this season, due to injury, during the Lakers weekend series against Sacred Heart.
  • Best scored two goals on Friday night and one on Saturday night for a three-point weekend.
Coaches Corner
  • "Robert Morris is going to be a tough four points for us, but there is no doubt that if we play our game we have a good chance," said Head Coach Rick Gotkin.
Teddy Bear Toss
  • During Sunday's game fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used stuffed animal to throw on the ice when the Lakers score their first goal of the game.
  • All donations will be given to the Erie City Mission.
Next Up
  • The Lakers will head to Minneapolis, MN to play in the Mariucci Classic on Fri. Dec. 30 and Sat. Dec. 31.
  • On Friday the Lakers will face off against the University of Minnesota at 7:05 p.m.
  • On Saturday, Mercyhurst will play the winner of Alabama-Huntsville vs. Massachusetts at 7:05 p.m.
