PRINCETON, N.J. – The Mercyhurst women's hockey team lost its twelfth game of the season 4-2 to the Princeton Tigers on Saturday afternoon at the Hobey Baker Ice Rink. Mercyhurst is now 6-12-1 overall and 3-6 away from Mercyhurst Ice Center this season.
The Tigers were the first team on the board and scored the only goal in the game's first period. At 13:53, Kiersten Falck scored at even-strength with assists from Cassidy Tucker and Emily Acheterkirch to put Princeton up 1-0.
The Lakers found a response to tie the game early in the second period on the power play.
Brooke Hartwick netted her third power play goal of the season with help from
Maggie Knott and
Samantha Fieseler to tie the game at one 1:27 into the second period.
Princeton retook the lead on a power play goal of its own at the 7:53 mark. This time Julia Edger and Falck set up Molly Stabley for the score to put the Tigers back in front 2-1.
Once again, Mercyhurst found a way to tie the score after another Hartwick goal. Hartwick scored her second of the game and team-leading ninth of the season at even strength with 10:50 remaining in the second period.
Taylor Accursi and Rachel Smith recorded their eighth and third assist of the season respectively and helped tie the game at two.
Second period scoring was not finished yet as the goal exchange continued with the Tigers finding their third goal of the game. Falck scored at even-strength once again to give the Tigers their third lead of the game at the 13:38 mark in the second period.
Mercyhurst had four power play opportunities after the third Princeton goal put couldn't find the equalizer. Late in the third period, the Lakers' pulled
Jessica Convery from net for the extra attacker, but Princeton was able to score on the empty net to finalize the 4-2 victory over Mercyhurst.
The Lakers will take on Princeton once again tomorrow, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m.
