AVON, Conn. -- The Mercyhurst men's hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss to Sacred Heart during Atlantic Hockey play on Saturday as the two teams split their weekend series.

Senior
Kyle Dutra and sophomore
Taylor Best scored the Lakers goals while sophomores
Les Lancaster,
Jeremy Wu and
Derek Barach were credited with assists.

Sacred Heart goals were scored by Zach Tsekos, Jordan Minello and Mitch Nylen.

Dutra got the Lakers on the board first 2:14 into the first period. Lancaster and Wu assisted Dutra's fifth goal of the season.

The Pioneers answered back with three goals of their own to take a 3-1 lead.

Best brought the Lakers within one late in the third period when he chipped the puck up over Sacred Heart goaltender Nathan Perry, but that was as close as MU got. Barach tallied an assist on the late goal.
Freshman goaltender
Colin DeAugustine stopped 19 out of 22 shots on net for the Lakers and Perry saved 27 out of 29 shots he faced for the Pioneers.

The Lakers were 0-for-5 on the power play while the Pioneers went 1-for-8.

The Lakers will be back in action Saturday and Sunday for a home-and-home series against AHA Opponent Robert Morris. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. at Robert Morris on Saturday and at 4:05 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Ice Center on Sunday.
