Men's Ice Hockey Drops First Road Game

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team fell to Merrimack, 5-1, in non-conference action on Friday. The contest was the first of two road games for the Lakers in New England this weekend.

Junior Zach Todd scored the lone Mercyhurst goal, receiving assists from Les Lancaster and Derek Barach.

With the Lakers trailing 3-0, Todd scored on the power play. That was as close as visiting Mercyhurst got as the Warriors finished with two unanswered goals.

Alex Carle led the Warrior effort with three assists. Mathieu Tibbet and Brett Seney had one goal and one assist each. Johnathan Kovacevic, Hampus Gustafsson and Michael Babcock also had goals for the hosts.

Kovacevic scored early in the first period for Merrimack on a 5-on-3 power play chance. Seney's goal put the Warriors ahead, 2-0, in the first. had the other goal for Merrimack in the first period.
 
The Warriors capitalized on another power play chance in the second period when Gustafsson found the back of the net.
 
Then came Todd's goal before Merrimack finished the contest with two unanswered goals. Tibbet scored late in the second period before Babcock put in a PPG during the third.
 
Mercyhurst junior goaltender Brandon Wildung saved 36 of 41 shots he faced. Merrimack's Drew Vogler stopped 29 of 30 shots.

The Lakers finished 1 of 10 on the power play while Merrimack went 3-for-9. while the Warriors capitalized on three of their nine power play chances.
 
The Lakers will be back in action on Saturday when they visit the University of New Hampshire for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
