Men's Ice Hockey Travels to Canisius College

Setting the Scene
  • The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team is set to travel to Buffalo, NY on Friday for the first of two games this season against Atlantic Hockey Opponent Canisius College.
Last Time Out
  • The Lakers fell to RIT 4-3, in a back-and-forth battle on Wednesday.
  • RIT got on the board first and from there both teams took turns scoring until RIT's Erik Brown scored with fifty seconds left to seal the win for the Tigers.
Previous Matchup
  • Mercyhurst and Canisius matched up twice during last season. The Lakers traveled to Buffalo, NY for the weekend series and came out of it with a split series. Canisius took the first game 4-3, before the Lakers took the second game 4-1.
Scouting Canisius
  • Canisius is coming off of a weekend series against AIC, where they won 4-0 and then tied 1-1.
  • They have a current overall record of 5-8-2 and a conference record of 3-1-2.
  • Nick Hutchison and Matt Hoover are tied for first place on Canisius' roster with seven points.
  • Hoover and senior goaltender Charles Williams were recognized with AHA Travel Team USA Weekly Awards, for their efforts against AIC. Hoover was named Rookie of the Week while senior goaltender Charles Williams was named Goalie of the Week.
A Look at the Lakers
  • Senior Kyle Dutra tallied an assist during the Lakers' matchup against RIT, to increase his point streak to five games.
  • Sophomore Derek Barach is still on top of the roster with 14 points, with sophomore Les Lancaster trailing closely behind with 12 points.
Next Up
  • The Lakers will have a weekend off before traveling to Fairfield, CT on December 9 and 10, to take on AHA Opponent Sacred Heart. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
