Men's Basketball Unable To Hold Off Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team suffered a 69-66 loss to Millersville in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest on Sunday.

DaJuan Dent had 12 points and eight rebounds while Durrell McDonald chipped in with 12 points of his own for the Lakers (2-2, 1-1).

Also, John Majors had 10 points, Stephen Spurlock grabbed seven rebounds and H'ian Hale finished with seven steals.

The host Marauders (2-1, 2-0) were led by Cornell Yarde II, who totaled 22 points. Marcus Adkison added 19 points and Conrad Chambers finished with 18 points and nine rebounds.

The teams traded the lead in the first half with Millersville taking a 36-33 advantage into halftime.

Mercyhurst came out strong in the second half -- at one point, enjoying a 9-0 run in which McDonald had five points and Majors put in four.

The Lakers led by as many as 10 points in the second before Millersville battled back. A three-pointer by Adkison gave the Marauders a 61-60 lead with 3:57 left in the contest.

After Millersville pushed the gap to 63-60, the Lakers made 4 of 6 free throws -- one by McDonald, two by Majors and one by Hale -- to re-take the lead at 64-63, but that was Mercyhurst's final lead of the game.

Yarde hit a three-pointer and Adkison increased the Marauder advantage to 68-64 with a pair of freebies. Dent answered with a layup for Mercyhurst with 12 seconds left and, after a Laker foul, Millersville's Amadou Kaba made 1 of 2 free throws to make the score 69-66. A three-point attempt by McDonald missed at the buzzer after that.

The Lakers went 25-for-59 from the field (42.4 percent), but struggled from three-point land with a 5-for-15 outing (33.3 percent). Millersville was 21 of 48 (43.8 percent) and 10 of 20 (50.0 percent), respectively. Mercyhurst won the rebounding battle, 39-29.

Mercyhurst will return to action on Sunday with a 3 p.m. non-conference home game against Daemen.
