Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team dropped a 89-80 overtime decision to Notre Dame (Ohio) in non-conference action on Tuesday.
Durrell McDonald led all scorers, finishing with 28 points for the Lakers (1-1). DaJuan Dent added 16 points while
John Majors and
Malcolm Walters chipped in with 10 points apiece.
Dent and Majors also had nine rebounds each while Walters and
H'ian Hale dished six and five assists, respectively.
For host Notre Dame (3-1), Kyauta Taylor scored 25 points while Will Vorhees compiled a double-double worth 24 points and 12 rebounds. Kobie Johnson added 18 points and Ja'Sean Lewis pieced together a double-double of his own, totaling 12 rebounds, 11 assists and four blocks.
The visiting Lakers scored the game's first 13 points -- and led by as many as 17 -- before the Falcons chipped away to close their deficit to 41-38 at halftime.
Mercyhurst pushed its lead back to double-figures in the second half as McDonald hit a pair of 3-pointers early in the period, but once again, Notre Dame clawed back.
After seven lead changes, McDonald tied the contest at 73-all before both teams failed to score during the final minute.
In extra time, the Falcons went on an 8-0 run and led the rest of the way. Mercyhurst pulled within five on three occasions after that, but that was as close as the visitors would get.
Mercyhurst shot 28 of 67 from the field (41.8 percent) and 8 of 21 from three-point land (38.1 percent) while NDC was 31 of 70 (44.3 percent) and 11 of 31 (35.5 percent), respectively.
At the free-throw line, the Lakers made 16 of 19 (84.2 percent) and the Falcons went 16 of 21 (76.2 percent).
Mercyhurst outrebounded Notre Dame, 41-40.
The Lakers will return to action on Friday and Saturday with Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contests at Cheyney and Millersville.
