Women's Basketball Rolls Through First Weekend Of Competition Undefeated

ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst womens basketball team went undefeated through their opening weekend of competition. Coming off of a Friday night victory against West Liberty (69-53), the Lakers kept their streak alive by defeating Notre Dame (Oh.), Saturday night. The Lakers had a decisive victory over the Falcons with a score of 73-48.

Senior Angela Heintz and Senior Jalin Steel tied as leading scorers for the Lakers offense finishing with 17 points a piece, while senior Natalie Piaggesi finished with 12.

Emilee Norris grabbed nine rebounds for the Laker squad while Heintz, and Steel dished out seven and four assists respectively. 

The Lakers shot 28 for 54 from the field (52%), while holding the Falcons to a 18-56 (32%). From behind the three-point line Mercyhurst put nine shots out of 16 shots away (56%). From the free throw line the Lakers shot an impressive eight for ten (80%).

Kim Cook was the leading scorer for the Flacons with 14 points.

The Lakers will take the court again November 9th, against Cheyney University, on the road at 1:00 PM
