ERIE, Pa. –
Anja Korte scored her first goal as a Laker and her goal proved to be the game-winning tally in a 2-0 Mercyhurst win over Daemen College at Mercyhurst Soccer Field Wednesday afternoon.
In the first half, Mercyhurst held the majority of possession and it resulted in more opportunities for the Lakers. Mercyhurst had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks, a 6-4 advantage in shot attempts, and most importantly a 1-0 lead after 45 minutes. Early in the half,
Anja Korte capitalized on a shot from 25 yards out to put the Lakers on the board with 38:21 on the clock. The goal was Korte's first of the season and her first as a Laker.
In the second half, it took the Lakers almost the same amount of time to score as it did in the first half. With 38:11 in the second half,
Maya Bauer scored her third goal of the season on a breakaway to give Mercyhurst the 2-0 advantage. Mercyhurst then held on to shutout the Wildcats. The shutout was the seventh of the season for goalkeeper
Kristen Koch.
Mercyhurst (8-7-2) will hold senior day on the final regular season game of the season scheduled for this Saturday at 1 p.m. against Millersville.
