Women's Soccer Held Scoreless in Season Finale

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team couldn't find the back of the net in its season finale, losing 1-0 to Millersville at Mercyhurst Soccer Field Saturday afternoon.

It was senior day for the Lakers and Kristen Koch, Lydia Lopez, Carly Zimmerman, Nicole McAlpin, Fanny Perstrom, and Rebekah Craig all started in their final game as Lakers. The Lakers held possession early and got a few cracks on goal but couldn't finish. Mercyhurst led Millersville in shots 8-6, but the Marauders led in the category that counts after the first half. In the 27th minute, Halie Parker sent in a cross that bounced around and was booted into the goal by Alexandrea Powell. Her goal gave Milllersville a 1-0 lead it took into the half.

In the second half, Mercyhurst had a few opportunities to tie the game, but their best chance came in the 52nd minute when Maia Russo sent a shot just wide of the goal. Mercyhurst once again had the advantage in shots (5-3) and corner kicks (6-2 in the second half, 7-4 total), but they failed to convert and lost 1-0.

The Lakers finished the 2016 season with an 8-8-2 overall record and a 6-8-2 mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. They finished in 11th place in the conference standings.
