Mercyhurst Men's Ice Hockey Welcomes Niagara University

The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team will welcome the Niagara Purple Eagles to the Mercyhurst Ice Center on Tues. Oct. 18 for its first conference game of the season.

The Matchup
  • Both teams are looking to grab their first win of the season.
  • This game will be the first of four games between the Lakers and Purple Eagles this season.
Game Recap
  • The Lakers hosted Penn State in the second Snowtown Throwdown and dropped a 7-0 decision.
Last Meeting
  • During the 2015-16 season, the Lakers and Purple Eagle met four times. The Lakers pulled out the first two wins, winning both games 3-2. Later in the season, they met again and tied both games 2-2.
Niagara's Lineup
  • The Purple Eagles had last weekend off.
  • They hosted Holy Cross on Oct. 7 and 8, losing the first game 8-2 and tying the second game 4-4.
  • Leading the Purples Eagle roster in points are freshmen Kris Spriggs [1g 2a] and Noah Delmas [3a].
  • They have nine freshmen on their roster and were picked tenth in the AHA Preseason Coaches Poll.
Coach Connections
  • Mercyhurst assistant coach Greg Gardner spent his college career with Niagara University as a standout goaltender for the Purple Eagles.
  • He was the assistant coach for the Purple Eagles from 2006-2011.
Next Up 
  • The Lakers will host American International in the weekend home series on Friday and Saturday, October 28 and 29 at 7:05 p.m.
