ERIE, Pa. -- In a heavily-penalized exhibition game, the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team dropped a 6-2 decision to the University of Guelph.
Zach Todd and
Brendan Riley scored goals for the Lakers.
The visiting Gryphons scored the game's first four goals and never looked back.
With MU trailing 4-0, Todd capitalized on the power play to get the Lakers on the board. Joey Duszak and senior
Kyle Dutra had assists on the goal.
Riley had the final goal of the game in the third period with assists from
James Anderson and
Stephen Hrehoriak.
In goal,
Brandon Wildung played the first 40 minutes, totaling 21 saves, before
Colin DeAugustine stopped four shots in the third period.

The Lakers capitalized on one of their eleven power play chances, while the Gryphons capitalized on three of their eight.

The Lakers are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Erie Insurance Arena, when they open their regular season -- and host the second Snowtown Throwdown -- against Penn State. Faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
