Men's Ice Hockey Claims Second Straight 3-2 Win over Niagara

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. -- For the second consecutive night, the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team earned a 3-2 victory over Niagara during Saturday's Atlantic Hockey matchup.

Tommaso Bucci, Anthony Mastrodicasa and Wes Baker had one goal each while winning goaltender Adam Carlson stopped 41 shots for the Lakers (10-10, 8-6).

After Sean King put the host Purple Eagles on top, 1-0, in the first period, Bucci and Mastrodicasa scored goals three minutes and five seconds apart. Mastrodicasa's score -- assisted by Kyle Dutra and Lester Lancaster -- was a power-play goal.

Baker extended the Mercyhurst lead to 3-1 in the second period, getting assists from Derek Barach and Patrick Piacentini. Niagara's Derian Plouffe pulled the Eagles within 3-2 and then Carlson made the Laker lead stand from there.

Niagara outshot Mercyhurst, 43-26. The Lakers went 1-for-8 on the power play while NU was 1-for-4.

The Lakers will return to action on Jan. 15-16 with a pair of AHA home games against Sacred Heart.
