Men's Ice Hockey Holds Off Sacred Heart, 2-1

ERIE, Pa. -- Winning goaltender Adam Carlson had 26 saves as the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team held on for a 2-1 win over Sacred Heart in Atlantic Hockey Association action in front of 1,412 fans on Friday night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Wes Baker and Josh Lammon provided goals for the Lakers (11-10, 9-6), who held a 2-0 lead before SHU's Jackson Barlian scored the visitors' only goal with 4:28 left in the third period.

Lammon got MU on the board with 1:22 remaining in the second. He deflected a shot from the right point by Anthony Mastrodicasa. Jack Riley also assisted the play.

Baker extended the Laker lead to two goals late in the third. Derek Barach and Jonathan Charbonneau made assists. Barach won a battle deep in SHU's zone and got the puck to Charbonneau, who fed a streaking Baker down the left side.

The Baker goal was much needed during a period in which the Lakers were outshot, 11-2. Barliant scored just 1:23 after Baker, but Carlson stood strong the rest of the way. Pioneer goalie Brett Magnus finished the game with 17 saves.

Sacred Heart (8-11-3, 7-8-2) held a 27-19 shot advantage. Neither team capitalized on the power play; both were 0-for-6.

The same two teams will meet again on Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. faceoff in Erie.
