ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team played Rensselaer Polytechnic to a 2-2 non-conference tie on Sunday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Jenna Dingeldein and
Samantha Fieseler scored goals for the Lakers (9-7-4), who fell behind 2-0 within the first 4:38 of the game before responding with two first-period goals of their own.,
Katie Rooney, who finished with a goal and an assist, scored 2:45 into the game before Mari Mankey put the visiting Engineers (5-10-3) up by two, chasing Mercyhurst starting goaltender
Jessica Convery.
Mercyhurst eventually answered on a goal by Dingeldein, who received an assist from
Lauren Kilroy. Fieseler knotted the game with 3:01 remaining in the first, receiving an assist from
Kathy Donohue.
Sarah McDonnell had 16 saves as the goalie of record for MU. She did not allow a goal. Her counterpart, RPI's Lovisa Selander, made 36 saves.
Rensselaer finished 0-for-3 on the power play while Mercyhurst went 0-for-2. The Lakers held a 38-18 shot advantage.
Mercyhurst will return to action on Friday, Jan. 15, and Saturday, Jan. 16, with a pair of College Hockey America contests at Syracuse.
