Men's Ice Hockey Unable To Tame RIT in 7-3 Loss

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team suffered a 7-3 loss to the Rochester Institute of Technology in an Atlantic Hockey contest in front of 932 fans on Sunday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Kyle Dutra and Jack Riley had two-point nights for the Lakers (8-9, 6-5). Dutra had a goal and an assist while Riley totaled a pair of assists. Tyler Enns and Josh Lammon also had goals for Mercyhurst.

The teams took turns with the lead, knotting ties at 1-, 2- and 3-all before the visiting Tigers (7-9-2, 7-4-1) ran away with four unanswered goals.

Enns tallied the game's first goal, getting assists from Riley and Dutra, before Chase Norrish scored for RIT to forge a 1-1 tie through one period.

Early in the second, the squads combined for three goals in one minute and six seconds. Josh Mitchell put the Tigers ahead 2-1 and then Lammon answered with a power-play goal for the Lakers just 52 seconds later. Riley and Jonathan Charbonneau had assists on the Lammon goal. RIT's Myles Powell came back with a goal to put the visitors back on top just 16 seconds after Lammon's goal.

Dutra's score -- with 10:54 remaining in the second -- wrote the game's last tie. Dutra received asissts from CHris Makowski and Jeremy Wu.

RIT's four consecutive goals -- two in the second and two in the third -- were scored, in order, by Andrew Miller (PP), Liam Kerins, Michael Holland (EN, SH) and Mitchell (PP).

Brandon Wildung finished with 28 saves in net for Mercyhurst. His counterparts, Mike Rotolo and Christian Short, combined for 27 stops in goal for RIT. Rotolo started in net before Short came on in relief to record 20 saves and the win.
