ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst University field hockey team lost, 3-1, to #1 Millersville Wednesday afternoon. The Marauders scored twice in the second half of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Tullio Field.
The Lakers played a strong first half, matching the Marauders first goal. Millersville scored early in the half on a tipped pass that deflected off a Marauder and into the net for an early advantage.
Fifteen seconds later, Mercyhursts' Katlyn Smith recorded her first goal of the season on an assist from
Jessica Brandon. Brandon was able to deflect a pass that found Smith in front of the net and was able to beat the keeper left side.
In the second half, the number one ranked team in the country proved its status and recorded two second half goals to pull away from the upset minded Lakers.
For the day, the Marauders outshot Mercyhurst, 24-3, while also holding the corner advantage, 21-5.

Sam Takac recorded a season-high 14 saves in the losing effort.
With the loss, the Lakers drop to 0-3, 0-1 PSAC on the season, while Millersville improves to 3-0, 1-0 PSAC.
Mercyhurst will travel to Bloomsburg Saturday, September 12, for another conference battle. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
