Field Hockey Blanked on the Road by Unbeaten and Top Ranked Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – After coming off a tough loss to #5 Kutztown Saturday, 2-1, the Lakers looked to redeem themselves with a road win over unbeaten and top ranked Millersville Tuesday afternoon. However, an early Marauders' goal propelled them to victory and remain undefeated, beating Mercyhurst, 1-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup.

Just two minutes and 47 seconds into the game, Millersville's Margaret Thorwart scored the game's lone goal off a pass from teammate Olivia Hershey. It was Thorwart's fourth goal of the season.

The Laker defense seemed to settle after the early goal; but offensively, Mercyhurst would only generate one shot and three corner opportunities. Millersville would outshoot the Lakers, 17-1, and was rewarded with 13 corners.

Senior goalkeeper Sam Takac played well for Mercyhurst in goal, stopping six-of-seven Marauder shots on net.

With the loss, the Lakers fall to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in PSAC play while Millersville improves to 8-0, 3-0 PSAC.

Mercyhurst will be back on the road Saturday afternoon, October 3, for another top five matchup versus #3 East Stroudsburg. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
