ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst University women's field hockey team gave #5 Kutztown a run for its money Saturday before falling 2-1 to the Bears on Homecoming weekend. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Lakers, now 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The Bears improved to 5-3 and 2-0.
Kutztown scored the first half's lone goal when sophomore Morgan Aldinger fired one past Lakers' senior goalkeeper
Sam Takac (3-5). The goal, at 11:23, was Aldinger's third of the season.
The Bears doubled their lead at 54:21 when senior Anna Behm's shot eluded Takac. But the Lakers fought back. Five minutes later, freshman forward
Jessica Brandon cashed her fourth goal of the season as she deflected a centering pass from junior
Emily Burns that beat Bears' senior goalkeeper Kayla Denlinger (5-3).
But, the Lakers could not get the equalizer.
Shots favored Mercyhurst 10-7 as did shots on goal 7-5. Kutztown had a 12-5 advantage in corners.
Mercyhurst will travel to PSAC-rival Millersville Tuesday for a 4pm contest.
