ERIE, Pa. – For the third straight game, the final score was 2-1. But this time, the Lakers owned the even number. Senior
Kristina Roberti's second goal of the season – and second in as many days – 8:54 into overtime, gave the Mercyhurst University women's soccer team a win over visiting Bloomsburg Saturday on a windy and rainy day. The Lakers won for the first time this season and are 1-2-1 overall and in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The Huskies dropped to 1-3 and 1-3.
After a scoreless first half, the Lakers drew first blood when senior
Lauren Testa blasted one home from the right side of the box at 56:10. Seven-and-a-half minutes later, the Huskies Megan Carroll squared the contest with a shot that beat Mercyhurst junior goaltender,
Kristen Koch.
That set the stage for Roberti's heroics as she converted a pass over the defense from Testa and was able to bury the shot over top of the keeper's head. The assist was Testa's second on the year.
Mercyhurst outshot Bloomsburg 16-10 over 98 minutes, including 4-1 in the overtime. Corner kicks were even at six aside. Huskies goalie Devon Haviland and Koch were credited with six saves apiece.
Mercyhurst will be back in action this Tuesday when it travels to PSAC-West rival Clarion for a 7:00 p.m. game.
