Volleyball Splits Pair On Day Two At Findlay; Byrnes Named To All-Tournament Team

FINDLAY, Ohio - The Mercyhurst University volleyball team, for the second straight day, split a pair of matches on Saturday while competing at the University of Findlay Invitational. The Lakers made quick work of Ursuline College on Saturday morning, winning in three straight - 25-16, 25-21, and 25-9. However, Mercyhurst ran into Findlay later in the day and lost in three straight - 18-25, 19-25, and 13-25 - to the host institution. After Saturday's competition, the Lakers find themselves with a record of 2-6 to start the campaign.

Senior outside hitter Erin Byrnes was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance over the weekend. She posted 43 kills and 25 digs in the four matches.

In the opener, Mercyhurst hit .347 for the match and did not commit an attack error in the third game against the Arrows. Byrnes led the way with ten kills and nine digs while only playing two of the three games. Junior Sarah Puckett posted eight kills and no errors in 20 attempts while also recording nine digs. Junior Lauren Kenny also had a strong effort with eight kills and three digs in the victory.

Things did not go as well for the Lakers in the nightcap as Findlay improved to 5-2 with the three-game victory.

Byrnes again led Mercyhurst with eight kills and three digs while junior Sarah Wegrzyn had seven kills in eight attempts (.875 hitting percentage). Kenny and senior Lexi Stefanov chipped in with five kills apiece.

Mercyhurst will host the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) / Mountain East Conference crossover on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19 at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The Lakers will play against Concord University on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. and then will square off against West Virginia State at 10:05 a.m. and against Notre Dame College at 4:05 p.m. on Saturday.
