ERIE, Pa. - The West Chester women's soccer team scored a pair of goals within a five-minute span in the first half and held on for a 2-1 win over host Mercyhurst Friday afternoon. The Golden Rams improved to 3-0 overall and in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) while the Lakers are still searching for their first win as they fell to 0-2-1 and 0-2-1 respectively.
West Chester junior Scarlett Walsh scored at 18:25 and sophomore Taylor Jamison followed suit at 23:04 as the Lakers dug themselves a 2-0 hole. Mercyhurst senior
Kristina Roberti gave the Lakers some momentum heading into halftime as she tallied her first goal of the season at 43:43 to draw the Lakers within one.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the final 45 minutes.
Junior Alex Srolis stopped three of the Lakers' four shots on goal and remained unbeaten (3-0) on the young season. Roberti's goal was the first she's allowed. Mercyhurst junior netminder
Kristen Koch (0-2-1) took the loss. She stopped four of six shots on target.
West Chester attempted 14 shots while the Lakers took seven. The Golden Rams had a slight 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Mercyhurst previously played to a 0-0 double overtime with Indiana University of Pennsylvania before bowing 2-1 at Lock Haven.
The Mercyhurst women return to action tomorrow at 1:00pm when they entertain PSAC-rival Bloomsburg.
